Doris Benter is a New York State artist who creates layered and textured artworks that sit between painting, and assemblage. Doris ‘s work is shaped by by her life growing up in a military family. Order, tradition, and quiet tension infuse her figurative works. Costume jewelry, military insignias, societal emblems all are embedded within each piece.

Religious elements-crosses, saints, and sacred relics reflect the spiritual legacy of her father’s second life as an Episcopal priest.
